Elon poll: Bush's popularity sagging in five Southeastern states

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The latest Elon University poll shows that a majority of adults in five key Southern states disapprove of President Bush's job performance, and they say the war in Iraq was not worth fighting.
The telephone poll of more than 12-hundred adults in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida was conducted over the last two weeks. It's the first regional poll conducted by the school, which has been doing state polls since 2000.
In the telephone poll, 43 percent of respondents said they approve or strongly approve of Bush's job performance, compared to 52 percent who said they disapproved or strongly disapproved.
Asked whether the war with Iraq was worth fighting or not, 51 percent said no, while just 44 percent said yes. Five percent said they did not know.
All five states went to Bush in the 2004 presidential election. |
