Description | Formally as the US Representative to the Vienna Office of the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador.
Vienna, one of the world's three UN cities, is home to a small but important cluster of UN and UN-related agencies. Located at the Vienna International Center (VIC), these organizations tackle some of the most critical and intractable issues of our time:
* preventing nuclear proliferation,
* eliminating the testing of nuclear weapons,
* ensuring safe nuclear power plants,
* promoting economic development,
* fighting drugs, and
* curbing international crime.
The responsibility of the United States Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE) is to promote the energetic and efficient functioning of these UN agencies.
