DescriptionOverview
The Superior Court of Pennsylvania is the intermediate court of appeal
in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, between the trial court of general
jurisdiction - called the Court of Common Pleas - and the Supreme Court
of Pennsylvania. Appeal to the Superior Court is generally of right from
final decisions of the Court of Common Pleas. Although different panels
of three judges may sit to hear appeals, there is only one Superior Court
(that is, Pennsylvania is not divided into appellate territories). The court is
based in Harrisburg, PA & sits to hear cases in locations across the state.

Under statute, judges gain seniority by length of continuous service on the
Court, elected judges receiving seniority over those serving by appointment.
Judges elected or appointed together determine seniority by lot. The
president judge is chosen by election of the Court to serve a 5-year term.

2013 ELECTIONS for the State Superior Court
Gantman (will be 61 years old) and Panella (will be 58) scheduled for retention votes.
