| Description | The City of Henderson’s Charter provides for the Council-Manager Form of Government pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes.
The Henderson City Council consists of a Mayor and eight (8) City Council Members elected on a non-partisan basis. Due to recent legislative changes, the terms of office transitioned to four-year staggered terms beginning with the 2011 municipal elections. The Mayor is elected at large and City Council Members are elected on a Ward basis as follows: Four members are elected from each of the four Wards by ward voters and four members are elected from Wards, but elected at-large. The Mayor votes only in the case of a tie vote of City Council Members.
Henderson City Council Meetings are held in the City Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, located at 134 Rose Avenue, Henderson, NC 27536. Beginning in January 2016, Council will meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. |
