InfoNOLAN, William Ignatius, a Representative from Minnesota; born in St. Paul, Minn., May 14, 1874; moved with his parents to Minneapolis, Minn., in 1877; educated in the public schools of Minneapolis; member of the Minnesota National Guard 1891-1896; engaged as a lecturer and humorist in 1894 and later as a Chautauqua lecturer; member of the State house of representatives 1903-1907, 1911-1913, and 1917-1923, serving as speaker 1919-1923; Lieutenant Governor of the State 1925-1929; chairman of the Minnesota Reforestation Commission in 1927; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Walter H. Newton; reelected to the Seventy-second Congress and served from June 17, 1929, to March 3, 1933; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1932 to the Seventy-third Congress and unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1934, 1936, and 1938; resumed his profession as a lecturer; elected State railroad and warehouse commissioner in 1942 and served until his death August 3, 1943, at Winona (Minn.) General Hospital, while on a visit; interment in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
