Info | My passion for at risk youth and their families came from the death (by overdose) of a young man in Launceston back in 1999. The Safe Haven was formed some 3 months later and incorporated in May 2000.
Having worked for many years with the youth and families of the Bass electorate I have observed the ongoing frustration's of these families in dealing with legal issues, assistance in finding and reconnecting with runaways and finding workable agencies of government is close to impossible. This observation has led me to my position on the board of management of the Launceston Community Legal Centre.
I am a founding committee member of the Launceston Youth Health Centre (The Corner) and still have a close working relationship with them. I have decided to enter the political arena, as I have seen no progress or direction from either of the major political parties or local government in the area of youth critical issues or support over the past 3 terms. I have learned in the accumulation of 10 years of hands on experience, in regard to dealing with at risk youth that, "kids don't live on the streets they die there".
