Info | Richard E. "Dick" Lommen
Richard was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Grand Forks, to Sidney and Helena (Berg) Lommen of Thompson. Richard attended school in Thompson and graduated in 1944. He attended South Dakota State in Brookings and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII.
Richard began his banking career in Buxton, later becoming an examiner with the FDIC. He continued his banking career in LaMoure, Forman, Dickey and Marion.
He then served as North Dakota State Land Commissioner until his retirement in 1985. Of note, as Land Commissioner in 1981, he was instrumental in the conception, planning and building of the North Dakota State Capitol Judicial Wing and Office Building.
Richard married Donna Riveland in 1952 in Buxton. Richard and Donna raised their five children in both Marion and Bismarck. Their three sons, Chad (Bonnie) of Marion, Dean (Dawn) of East Grand Forks, Minn., and Reed (Candi) of Maple Valley, Wash., and two daughters, Erin (Jay) Lommen Mead of West Linn, Ore., and Heather (William) Solig, of Bismarck, were truly the pride and joy of their married life. In addition, Richard and Donna celebrated the lives of their 14 grandchildren, Kari, Todd, Casey, Lindsey, Daria, Annika, Nathan, Drew, Zach, Dunal, Brynn, Brogan, Sky and Andrea; and their seven great-grandchildren.
