| Info | Charles Merriman is a partner in the law firm of Tarrant, Marks & Gillies in Montpelier. Charlie's practice focuses on municipal law issues.
Prior to joining his firm, Charlie served as a Vermont assistant attorney general for nine years. During that period, he provided daily support and help to municipal officers and Vermonters on a range of municipal issues. Prior to serving as an assistant AG, Charlie was Market Conduct Chief for the Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration, a position that included supervision of the Consumer Protection Division. This job, too, put him in constant contact with Vermonters who needed an advocate on their behalf.
For the last 13 years, Charlie has served as Chair of the Middlesex Zoning Board of Adjustment and has held numerous other civic board positions in the past including chair of the Middlesex School Board, board member of the Brookhaven Home for Boys, and vestry member of his church, Christ Episcopal in Montpelier.
A 1995 graduate of Vermont Law School, Charlie attended graduate studies in economics at the London School of Economics and is a 1982 graduate of Case Western Reserve University. He and his wife, Sarah Strohmeyer, an author, are parents of Anna, 18, and Sam, 13.
