President pro tempore of the Senate during the Nineteenth Congress; chairman, Committee on Foreign Relations (Fifteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses), Committee to Audit and Control the Contingent Expense (Seventeenth Congress). Resigned from office on 11/14/1828.
