| Description | Conservative Christian party founded as the "Conservative Party" by businessman and perennial prime-ministerial candidate Colin Craig. Party suffered through years of upheaval and controversy, resulting in Craig's resignation in June 2015. Craig was succeeded as leader by Leighton Baker, who moved the party to the center (presenting more economic-focused positions, including tax reform and trimming the bureaucratic state), and rebranded the party the "New Conservative Party" in November 2017. Baker departed to form his own party in June 2023. The party's new leader Helen Houghton moved the party more center-right and renamed the NCP the "New Conservatives" (NC), registering the new name on August 23, 2023. Party chair is Kevin Stitt. |
