Description | Center-left, anti-junta party and direct successor to, and home to former members of, the dissolved Future Forward Party led by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit. Party began as the Ruampattana Chatthai established on May 1, 2014, which renamed itself the Kao Klai (Future Forward) Party on March 15, 2018 (and was certified on October 3, 2018). Future Forward was forcibly dissolved by a Constitutional Court on February 21, 2020 under the pretext that leader Juangroongruangkit was indulging in illegal financial activity. Party was rebranded and re-registered as the Progressive Party (พรรคก้าวไกล; oddly translated as Move Forward Party in English) on January 19, 2020. Leadership was shifted to businessman Pita Limjaroenrat, who was the party's prime ministerial nominee ahead of general elections held on May 14, 2023. Party was able to pick up 151 seats, the largest presence in the Thai House. Dissembling by ally party Pheu Thai sank Limjaroenrat's chance to become Prime Minister in 2023 (Pheu Thai had nominated Limjaroenrat twice earlier for the position in July 2023, but cratered the third time under pressure from the ruling government). Limjaroenrat was suspended as MP and party leader on July 19, 2023 by the Constitutional Court on the pretext of holding shares in ITV media. Move Forward was dissolved by the Constitutional Court of Thailand on August 7, 2024 [พรรคก้าวไกล; Phak Kao Klai (PKK) or "KorKor"]. |
