Description | Lorraine Coyle Koppell, a Riverdale lawyer and Democrat, will challenge State Senator Guy Velella, a Republican, in the November election. Velella represents much of Norwood and a portion of Bedford Park in the seat he has held since 1986, in addition to his base of neighborhoods in the east Bronx, and part of Riverdale and Westchester.
Koppell, who is married to Community School Board 10 president Oliver Koppell, has entered the race despite the apparent consternation of the borough's Democratic chief, Roberto Ramirez, who has a working relationship with Velella, the borough's only elected Republican, and is loath to upset the borough's precarious political apple cart.
For his part, Velella said the race wouldn't fray his relations with Ramirez. |
