JEFFERSON CITY - Democrat Steve Stoll today won the endorsement of the Missouri Federation of Teachers and School-Related Personnel (MFT-SRP) in his bid for the for the 3rd Congressional seat.

Scott Ciafullo, MFT-SRP President states, “Missouri is facing the third year of a fiscal crisis worse than anything experienced since the Great Depression, brought on mostly by irresponsible Bush administration economic policies that are having devastating and lasting effects. The only way to reverse the serious damage inflicted on education, healthcare, and public services is to halt harmful and reckless federal policies. Steve Stoll has the strongest record on education and labor. His dedication to education and for fighting to protect labor rights makes him the obvious choice to represent our values in Washington, D.C. Starting today, MFT members here in Missouri, and AFT members across the country will begin work to ensure that Steve Stoll is the next Congressman from Missouri’s 3rd District.”

“A quality education is fundamental to a prosperous society and economy. Schools are critical institutions for breaking the cycle of economic downturn. Only with family involvement, community engagement, and adequate resources will education be successful,” stated Stoll.

“The current Administration has a habit of selling America its legislation with slogans instead of substance. One glaring example is “No Child Left Behind”. An Act, which does have good aspects, but wrests too much control from local and state school boards, relies too strongly on constant standardized testing, and needs to be rewritten. The mindless attempt to have the federal government dictate education policy and not send the resources schools need is hurting teachers, students, and the future of America.
