Description | Senate candidate and former Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) has apologized after video surfaced of him comparing himself and elected officials to slaves on ships, comments he appeared to make six years ago while he was governor.
"Taking a look at this video from six years ago, I recognize that my comments were painful. I did not intend them to be. I offer my deepest apologies," Hickenlooper said in a statement released by his campaign on Monday.
The Senate hopeful's apology came after Tay Anderson, a member of the Denver School Board, on Monday tweeted a video of Hickenlooper making the comparison. |
