Description | A state representative from Hot Springs was arrested Thursday on charges of failing to pay or file a tax return over a six-year period, Arkansas State Police confirmed.
Michael "Mickey" Gates surrendered Thursday morning to Arkansas State Police in Garland County on six counts of failing to pay or file a tax return, agency spokesman Bill Sadler said. Gates did not file an individual income tax return with the state from 2003-2017, according to an affidavit filed Tuesday in Garland County Circuit Court. [DOCUMENT: Read arrest affidavit]
The document states the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration notified Gates that it would be conducting an audit in October 2011, and the investigation concluded in September 2015. The agency could not produce any documents that show Gates filed a tax return during that time. |
