DescriptionPuerto Ricans have spoke overwhelmingly in favor of annexation to the United States for the first time ever in a non-binding referendum held on Tuesday, which final results will not be known until Wednesday, according to the island's governor, Luis Fortuño.

Just as the race for the post of Governor Fortuño still occupies, was in dispute because the executive refused to accept defeat in a race in which he was at a disadvantage, according to partial results issued general on Wednesday at dawn.

According to partial results from the Election Commission (EC) of Puerto Rico, with more than 60% of the votes counted, the candidate of the opposition Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Alejandro Garcia Padilla, leading the race for governor with 47.75% of the vote, compared to 47.27% for the current governor Fortuño.

The executive, who supported the annexation of the island as the 51st state of the United States and prompted the inquiry on Tuesday, took for secure reelection.
