Description | Escalating the mud war in this year's congressional race, GOP power broker Guy Molinari on Tuesday accused U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) of sicking the FBI on GOP Rep. Michael Grimm.
"I wouldn't put it past Schumer," Molinari told the Advance. "No question the Democrats are involved."
The FBI is investigating Grimm's 2010 campaign fundraising, and on Friday, arrested Ofer Biton, who helped Grimm raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, on visa fraud charges.
Molinari said that he could see Schumer "calling up" Attorney General Eric Holder, head of the U.S. Justice Department under Democratic President Barack Obama, "and asking for a favor."
If not Schumer, Molinari said, then he could picture Rep. Steve Israel (D-L.I.), chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), looking to spur an FBI investigation of Grimm. |
