DescriptionOAK CREEK, Wisconsin — Local and federal investigators probing an attack on a Sikh temple in the US state of Wisconsin said Sunday they are treating the shootings as a "domestic terrorism type incident."

Local police chief John Edwards told reporters that the gunman and six more people had been shot dead during the attack and that three people, including a police officer, were wounded in the incident.

"We are treating it as a domestic terrorist incident and therefore the FBI has the resources," Edwards said, explaining why agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation had joined the investigation.

"Domestic terrorism is terrorism within the confines of the United States. It is within the United States," he said, recounting how his officers had rushed to the scene of the attack on the suburban temple.
