Description | House and Senate leaders reached a six-month deal to fund the federal government through March of next year, a rare breakthrough in a divided Congress that has battled ferociously over the budget for the past two years.
The deal, announced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) Tuesday, shows that both parties have little appetite for a knock-down, drag-out budget fight on the eve of the presidential election and would rather put the matter off into next year.
Most continuing resolutions maintain flat-line funding from one fiscal year into the next. But there will be an uptick in money under the Reid-Boehner deal, something that could anger some conservatives itching for another budget fight. |
