Description | Former Senate President Russell Pearce and his supporters today were shut out of three locations where they had requested to hold a fundraiser for the Mesa Republican.
Two Phoenix Mexican restaurants told the former lawmaker that he is not welcome and a third venue – a Phoenix high school library – denied his request 30 minutes before supporters were set to begin arriving.
Phoenix Union High School District Superintendent Kent Scribner said officials refused Pearce’s request to hold the event at Central High School’s library because he asked too late in the day.
“Given the late notice of this request and the anticipated turnout, we are unable to host it,” Scribner said.
He said the anticipated huge turnout from protestors meant the district would have to hire more security. He said it is “not logistically feasible” to get the appropriate level of staffing on such short notice. |
