Description | Gov. Jan Brewer jumped into the hotly contested Phoenix mayoral race Monday, formally endorsing former city councilwoman Peggy Neely for the post.
Neely's campaign, you might remember, is being run by the HighGround consulting firm - the same group that closely advises Brewer and ran her gubernatorial campaign last year.
But HighGround principal Doug Cole said that connection is not why Brewer is backing Neely.
"They are both longtime clients of the firm," Cole said. "But that's a secondary issue."
Cole said the two Republican women "have known each other for a long time" and he pointed out that Neely actually endorsed Brewer last year when she was in the midst of a heated Republican primary. |
