DescriptionLincoln County Republican state Rep. Johnathan Rhyne plans to resign from the House next month.

“I accomplished the primary goals that I set for this session,” said Rhyne, who is in his sixth term in the House. His resignation is effective Aug. 15.

Those goals include passing a fiscally responsible balanced budget without a tax increase, reforming the civil justice system to provide a healthy environment where businesses can invest, grow and provide jobs and protect Lincoln County in the congressional and legislative redistricting process.

Rhyne, 56, said that family issues also played a role in his decision. “We purchased a home outside the district a little over a year ago,” Rhyne said, adding that he continued to reside in Lincoln County. “Now that the session is over, I’m going to relocate.”
