Description | The race: Promising to battle unemployment and foreclosures, four candidates are competing for one commission seat and two others for mayor.
The candidates: Incumbent Mayor Lori C. Moseley has served on the commission since 1995. Her challenger John L. Moore owns a computer consulting firm and served on the commission from 2005-2007.
The background: Miramar faces sinking property tax revenue, and over the last two years has raised taxes and fire fees, frozen hiring and salaries and cut facilities maintenance and public programming.
Miramar has grown much larger over the last decade and hopes now to redevelop the much older eastern side of the city. Previous elections drew criticism from residents hoping for representation from the east side. Of the current candidates, only Moore lives in that area.
