Description | WILMINGTON -- Sherman Willard Tribbitt, Delaware’s governor from 1973 to 1977, died today due to complications following a fall last week.
Tribbitt, 87, was a veteran of World War II and a hardware store owner in Odessa who served in the Delaware House of Representatives from 1956 to 1965 -- rising to the position of speaker, a job he held for six years. He then was lieutenant governor from 1965 to 1969, leading the Delaware Senate -- before winning a term as governor.
Gov. Jack Markell today ordered state flags to be lowered to honor Tribbitt.
“Gov. Tribbitt loved his family, his state and his nation. He served his country at home and abroad during war and peace, with conviction and commitment,” Markell said. |
