Description | Money doesn't seem to be a problem so far in Mayor Gavin Newsom's bid to unseat Republican Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado in November.
Campaign finance documents released Monday show Newsom with a 2-1 fundraising advantage (although Democrats are holding their breath to see how much money GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman pumps into down-ballot races).
Newsom had raised more than $1.4 million as of June 30 compared with $620,000 for Maldonado.
Newsom had $495,000 in the bank at that point compared with Maldonado's $91,000, but that doesn't include unpaid bills on both sides. Newsom had $42,000 in outstanding bills, while Maldonado's camp owed $262,000, leaving his campaign about $171,000 underwater, filings show. |
