N.O. man indicted for threatening to kill Obama

Description | NEW ORLEANS - A federal grand jury has indicted a New Orleans man for allegedly calling 911 and threatening to kill President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
John Turnpaugh, 47, was indicted in a four count counts, including intent to distribute marijuana, illegally possessing firearms and using the firearms for his drug trafficking activity.
According to court papers, on Dec. 30, Turnbaugh “did knowingly and willfully make a threat to take the life of the President of the United States, by calling a 911 police dispatcher and saying, ‘Yeah, Hey, I’m gonna kill Barack Obama and his wife this month ... F--- you.’”
A day later investigators allegedly found the marijuana along with a cache of weapons: .22 caliber long rifle, an SKS semi-automatic rifle, a Hi-Point Model C9, 9mm Luger semi-automatic handgun, a Hi-Point Model CF380, .380 caliber ACP semi-automatic handgun
If convicted of all charges, Turnpaugh faces a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well as $1 million in fines, said the statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. |
