Description | Dallas businessman G. Brint Ryan says he will run for the Dallas City Council's District 13 spot, making the race for this northwest Dallas district increasingly crowded -- and interesting.
Mr. Ryan joins Ann Margolin and aerospace consultant Raj Narayanan as District 13 residents who have officially appointed campaign treasurers, allowing them to raise money ahead of the May 2009 council elections.
Ms. Margolin in particular boasts an impressive roster of backers, including a number of former mayors and City Council members.
But Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks will serve as Mr. Ryan's treasurer. And Mr. Ryan is using powerhouse consulting firm Allyn & Co. for media.
"We are all beginning to feel the pinch of these tough economic times. Our home prices are down, retail spending is down -- and in fact, for the past three months, our city tax receipts have fallen short of projections," Mr. Ryan said in a statement today. "So, like many of our taxpayers, I was shocked to hear about our city spending nearly $500,000 on new flat screen TVs and other items to impress City Hall visitors.
"Our families don't need flat screens at City Hall. We need more police patrolling our neighborhoods. We need street, sidewalk and alleyway improvements. We need better parks and green spaces. And we need less wasteful spending at City Hall," Mr. Ryan continued.
Mr. Ryan runs the Ryan tax advising service.
Four-term District 13 council member Mitchell Rasansky must step down next year because of mandatory term limits. Mr. Rasansky has endorsed Ms. Margolin and serves as her campaign's "honorary co-chair." |
