DescriptionSPRINGDALE — Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller said Thursday that he’ll run for governor in 2006, "God and my wife willing," but he’s apparently not trying to woo the votes of some rural-education supporters along the way.

...

Rockefeller has long shown interest in running for governor in 2006, when fellow Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee will be barred by the state’s term-limits law from running for re-election.

The lieutenant governor said in response to an audience question that he wants to run but will make sure his wife, Lisenne, is OK with it. The couple have eight children..

Rockefeller is the son of the late Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller, a Republican who served from 1967-71, and the great-grandson of the industrial titan John D. Rockefeller. The lieutenant governor thought about running for U.S. Senate next year against Sen. Blanche Lincoln, an Arkansas Democrat, but he said he’s ruled that out. "I don’t have a burning desire to move to Washington," he said. "My heart is here in Arkansas. There’s a lot of work left to be done."
