Description | Will he or won’t he?
It’s a question that has been dogging Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta for more than a year – and he’s artfully dodged it.
Actually, he’s been asked that since the first weeks after he proposed the Illegal Immigration Relief Act in June 2006.
When Barletta scheduled an event to announce his re-election campaign last January, some at the time speculated the event was for him to announce a bid for higher office.
After he won both the Republican and Democratic nominations for mayor in May, a few speculated that announcement would quickly follow.
And as Barletta appeared on local television stations on election night a few weeks ago, hosts asked him point blank if he was going to finish his third term as mayor.
Now, in an interview with Times-Shamrock Staff Writer Borys Krawczeniuk, Barletta says he will make an announcement about his political future before the end of the year.
Krawczeniuk analyzed the signs and wrote that Barletta “is at the least leaning toward challenging” U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-11, for his congressional seat. |
