Description | RENO, Nev. (AP) - Green Party gubernatorial candidate Craig Bergland on Sunday threw his support to Democrat Dina Titus, saying Republican Jim Gibbons' election as governor could hurt efforts to develop alternative energy in Nevada.
In an e-mail message to fellow party members, Bergland praised Titus' pledge to hold a renewable energy summit within the first 100 days of office and to increase use of Nevada's geothermal, solar, wind and biomass power.
He accused Gibbons, a five-term congressman, of favoring more coal-fired power plants that are blamed for contributing to global warming.
"A Washington insider becoming our governor may well spell the end of alternative energy in Nevada," Bergland said.
"(Titus) is best capable of putting us on the good path to true security, sustainability and self-reliance," he added. |
