An excerpt...
"Rumors of Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor's death forced UPMC Shadyside Wednesday night to back off its decision to leave any further updates on his condition to his office and family.
After hours of intense media attention, hospital spokeswoman Clare Collins told reporters O'Connor was still alive. "He's still with us," she told The Times around 8 p.m.
On Wednesday afternoon, the hospital had said O'Connor was in serious condition and there would be no further comments from his doctors.
But Collins said hospital officials then decided to respond to reports the mayor had died earlier in the day. She would not say why they changed their decision.
"It was a decision we needed to come to with the mayor's office and his family," Collins said." |
