DescriptionCongressman Lane Evans (D-Illinois) said today the Iowa Governor’s race is essential to regional growth—so much so that he felt a need to voice his support for Mike Blouin in the Democratic primary race for Governor.

“What our region desperately needs is economic growth. Mike Blouin and I have both seen the Maytags of the world leave our states—leaving behind working families. Mike Blouin gives these families hope without over promising,” Evans said.

Congressman Evans represents the 17th district of Illinois, which borders Iowa covering the Quad Cities area. Evans knows well the devastation of Maytag leaving Galesburg, Ill., part of his district. He said Iowa will need an experienced leader who has rebuilt areas before and has a proven track record of success to rebuild it’s future.

Blouin, the state’s former economic development director, has 20 years experience in economic development. Evans and Blouin have both supported the local regional growth projects along the Mississippi—and share a passion for reinvigorating the economy and revitalizing the area.

Congressman Evans said he’s been watching the Iowa Governor’s race closely and understands how contentious this race has been.

“Mike Blouin has stood for working people’s values since the 1960s. Mike has seen the tides turn in politics and has worked to build consensus to bring real hope to families. His history, his track record, and his support of Democratic values is solid—don’t let anyone mislead you by saying anything to the contrary,” Evans said.
