Description | House Speaker Doug Mays announced today that he is dropping out of next year's governor's race, saying wants to devote his time to the upcoming legislative session.
Mays, 55, of Topeka, also said he wouldn't seek re-election to the House seat he has held since 1993. He has been speaker since 2003.
His withdrawal leaves two other major candidates in the Aug. 1 Republican gubernatorial primary -- Sen. Jim Barnett, an Emporia physician, and former House Speaker Robin Jennison, of Healy. |
