Description | ALBANY - Republican Senate hopeful Jeanine Pirro slammed Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) yesterday for going Hollywood and raising cash in Tinseltown last week.
"This race is about everyday New Yorkers - not about Hollywood celebrities," said the Westchester County district attorney, who wants to oust Clinton in next year's election.
Pirro has reason to smart over Hollywood generosity for the former First Lady. Clinton has fielded donations from Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert DeNiro, Norman Lear, Chevy Chase, Don Henley and Rob Reiner, among others.
Overall, Clinton has a $13.8million war chest compared with just $363,000 for Pirro.
Meanwhile, Pirro announced her first campaign broadcast ad - a radio spot that touts her as an advocate for sex-crime victims and promotes the civil confinement of sex fiends.
While most candidates introduce themselves to voters in their opening ads, Pirro apparently has determined she's better off chipping away at a key Clinton constituency, some observers said.
"This is clearly a play for women voters," said Baruch College political science Prof. Doug Muzzio. "Pirro is trying to establish identity with an issue rather than simply being 'That Republican woman running against Hillary Clinton.'" |
