Description | Democrat Michelle Shain is holding the financial cards in the special election for House District 24, a Republican stronghold under former House Speaker David Wilkins.
Reports filed with the House Ethics Committee show that Shain, a Greenville City Council member, raised $109,692 compared to Republican Bruce Bannister's $61,450. Shain put $1,412 in personal funds into her campaign.
Shain's total was bolstered by $14,850 she transferred from her city council campaign account. She reported $56,544 in cash on hand, Bannister, $18,251.
Bannister said he spent $43,199, much of it in winning the nomination, and Shain reported expenditures of $53,147.
