Description | Democrat Rutt Bridges pulled out of the 2006 Colorado governor's race Thursday, saying he did not have the "skills or the stomach to be an effective politician."
It's the second time in 18 months the wealthy software entrepreneur has backed out of a political contest. Last year, he abandoned the U.S. Senate race after only 10 days.
Bridges' departure - two months after announcing his candidacy - increases the likelihood that others will jump into the fray to take on the only other announced Democratic candidate, former Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter. Bridges, 54, said he would not endorse Ritter or anyone else "at this time."
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and state Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, D-Jefferson County, are considered potential candidates. |
