Description | The Indiana House kept legislation seeking statewide observance of daylight-saving time alive Monday, passing the bill in a dramatic and somewhat chaotic second try to beat a midnight deadline for advancing it to the Senate. Republican Rep. Donald Lehe of Brookston finally nudged the bill to passage with the 51st vote.
Efforts to mandate statewide daylight have failed numerous times since the legislature adopted the current system in 1971.
This year marked the first time in a decade such a proposal made it to the floor of either chamber. The last time it was voted on by the full Senate was 1983, when it was defeated 46-4.
