Description | Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro will announce this evening that Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich will be his running mate in his 2006 bid for governor, according to associates of Heimlich.
Representatives of Petro's campaign would neither confirm nor deny speculation this morning that Hamilton County Commissioner Phil Heimlich will be named his running mate.
Heimlich has a $1,000-per-couple fund-raiser scheduled tonight at the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.
Petro, a Cleveland-area native, is one of three Republicans running to replace term-limited Gov. Bob Taft in 2006. The others are Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and state Auditor Betty Montgomery.
Heimlich, a Symmes Township resident, is a conservative Republican who served on Cincinnati City Council before being elected county commissioner in 2002. He has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for U.S. Rep. Rob Portman's 2nd Congressional District seat, which Portman is vacating to become U.S. trade representative. |
