Gronstal says timing's right for run for Iowa governor

Description | Senate Democratic Leader Michael Gronstal said he is "excited about the possibility" of seeking the Democratic nomination for governor and will make a final decision this summer.
"It's the perfect time in my life to consider it," Gronstal said. "It is an open seat. In terms of my life, the timing is pretty good. My kids are done with college."
Gronstal, 55, of Council Bluffs, said he is going to put the issue of seeking the nomination for governor aside until after this year's session is over, but he made it clear he is giving the idea serious thought. He spoke during a taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press" program to air over the weekend.
"I have a passion for public policy, and I have a love of this state," Gronstal said. "That passion can be exercised in the Governor's Office, it can be exercised in the Legislature. I'm going to continue to pursue that passion
