Description | DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - More than half of the Iowans asked if Gov. Tom Vilsack should seek his party's presidential nomination said it's a bad idea.
The Des Moines Register's new Iowa Poll shows the majority of Iowans - 58 percent - said they approve of the job Vilsack is doing as governor, but 55 percent said he shouldn't seek a presidential nomination. About 29 percent said he should make a run for the White House.
The poll comes as Vilsack, who was considered on Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's short list of running mates last year, tells aides he might look at a run for president.
The random telephone poll of 800 Iowa adults was taken Jan. 21-26 by Selzer & Co. Inc., of Des Moines. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
