Description | In regard to the Oct. 23 article about Steve Buyer and David Sanders' visits to West Lafayette High School, I cant help but wonder if it was just a little biased.
I am a student at West Lafayette High School, and I could only attend the Sanders visit due to time constraints. But even so from everything I hear from the Buyer visit, the article's representation of both visits vastly contrasts the facts of the events. The article never mentioned anything about how when Buyer was faced with tough questions he was unable to respond with the best of answers. And from what I hear, he began to become frustrated and was unable real answers. Posed with similarly tough questions Sanders was able to give good, well thought out responses -- which is definitely true, but was never mentioned.
I also find it moderately offensive and presumptuous of the article to presume that anyone "bought into" anything. We heard both sides and we can decide for ourselves what we think is true about the possible military draft.
The article, in my opinion, made it seem like a it was a debate. And if you want to report a debate, you can't only bring one side's arguments and counter-arguments without bringing in the other's. And if you want to evaluate who actually did a better job at this "debate," I'm willing to bet you money that the polls at my school would say Sanders won. |
