Description | You know it's an unusual political race when the NAACP and Planned Parenthood help defend the Republican candidate against attack ads launched by the California Democratic Party.
But that's what's happening in the state Assembly race between Republican Steve Poizner and Democrat Ira Ruskin -- one of the tightest races in California, and a contest that has become increasingly bitter.
Voters across the 21st Assembly District, which stretches from the Almaden Valley to San Mateo County, have received mailings suggesting Poizner opposes abortion rights. Last week, they received a letter implying the high-tech millionaire supports President Bush's goal of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. |
