Description"I cannot begin to conceive why anyone would reject this amendment, other than for political purposes," said Foxx. "I prepared this amendment because I wanted to protect our rescue workers who risk their lives on a daily basis for their communities. Why on earth would someone object to protecting them?"

"Because of the dangerous nature of the manufacture of methamphetamine, our law enforcement officers, firefighters and other service workers are placed in great danger," said 24th District Attorney Jerry Wilson. "It would seem only appropriate that the excellent piece of legislation also contain provisions dealing with those dangers."

Foxx, whose Senate district has been plagued by meth labs, said she believes that some Democrats want to use the methamphetamine epidemic as a political issue. "They only want their fellow party members to be able to take credit for working to solve this problem. My amendment would have allowed them to share credit with Republicans, so it got the axe," she said. "It's a shame that some want to resort to dirty partisan politics at the expense of the safety of our law enforcement personnel."
