Description |
Northern Kentucky Right to Life has decided to endorse Madison County GOP chair Barry Metcalf in the upcoming primary election over U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, a Catholic who is ardently pro-life.
The influential regional pro-life organization did endorse Bunning, R-Southgate, in his initial 1998 bid for the Senate.
And in its April 2004 newsletter announcing primary endorsements, the organization said "Bunning has a 100 percent pro-life voting record in the U.S. Congress."
But the newsletter said the group withheld its endorsement for the conservative lawmaker for two reasons: because Bunning contributed $1,000 to the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Peppy Martin in 1999 and invited former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a pro-choice Republican, to speak at a fund-raiser at the Kentucky Speedway in August of last year.
