MONTGOMERY - Tom Parker, former legal adviser to ousted Chief Justice Roy Moore, said he is seeking to unseat Justice Jean Brown solely because she voted with other justices to remove Moore's Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Judicial Building rotunda.
"My candidacy is going to give voters a chance to let their feelings be known on that, and to hold the incumbent accountable for her vote to remove the word of God," Parker said. "The issue in this election is the vote to remove the Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda in the state judicial building."
Parker was a Moore appointee, and he lost several positions after the chief justice was ousted. As deputy administrative director of courts, Parker was general counsel to state trial court judges and court clerks; director of the state judicial college; and legal adviser and spokesman for Moore in his official capacity.
Justice Gorman Houston, who became acting chief justice when Moore was ousted, fired Parker for a statement critical of the federal court.
"As spokesman for Chief Justice Moore, I had issued a press release calling an order of the federal district court unlawful and judicial tyranny because the court was sending orders to non-party state officials over which it had no jurisdiction and was simply trying to intimidate them through fear," Parker said.
