DescriptionSalvadoran Official Urges Withdrawal of 380 Troops
The Honolulu Advertiser

El Salvador's human rights ombudsman asked the government Wednesday to withdraw its troops from Iraq. The request comes after Spain, Honduras and the Domincan Republic announced that they would pull their troops out of Iraq sooner than their original commitment calls for. "The removal of these other troops has caused the guerrilla forces to change their tactics tremendously and exposes us to greater risks," Beatrice de Carrillo said at a news conference. El Salvador has about 380 troops stationed near Najaf under a one-year commitment. They had served alongside the Dominicans and Salvadorans under Spanish command. President Francisco Flores' administration will come to an end when the president leaves office June 1.
