Description | Indiana Supreme Court Justice Picked to Lead USOC Nominating Group
The Honolulu Advertiser
Indiana Supreme Court Justice Theodore R. Boehm was appointed Wednesday to head a group charged with selecting a new U.S. Olympic Committee board of directors. he four-person panel will choose members for an 11-person USOC board of directors as part of a restructuring plan put in place last year following months of turmoil surrounding the organization. The committee will also choose a chair for the board and members of the USOC's ethics committee. "The United States Olympic Committee has made great strides over the past year in reforming its governance structure to better serve America's athletes," Boehm said in a statement. "We recognize that the work of this group will impact the future policies and direction of the organization as it continues to move forward in support of the Olympic movement."
The USOC's restructuring plan, which was approved in October, calls for the board to be trimmed from 123 members to a group with four independent members and four nominated by sports and athletes. It also must include the three American IOC members, who will have limited voting powers. The panel is expected to announce next week the process for applying or nominating individuals for the independent spots. The USOC hopes to have the new board in place sometime before the Athens Games in August. |
