Description | The Millennials & Generation Y
Sociologists Neil Howe and William Strauss have dedicated much of their work to study the rise of what they believe will be "The Greatest Generation." The Millennials are called by other names: "Generation Y," for example. Faith leaders are quick to point out, Millennials are the "Generation of Hope."
Millennials are comprised of a generation born between 1982 and 2000. Their values, beliefs and lifestyles are quite different from the generations before them: the Baby-Boomers of the 1940s and 1950s and Generation X of the 1960s and 1970s. Howe and Strauss concluded that Millennials are held to higher standards than adults apply to themselves. They're a lot less violent, vulgar, and sexually charged than the teen culture older people are producing for them. They are more faith driven than their predecessor generations and are trending towards being less apathetic when it comes to politics. They actually care about policy, despite what older generations think. Millennials are driven by events like Columbine, the Clinton Impeachment, September 11 and the Iraq War of 2003.
Discuss the Millennials, debate Howe and Strauss' studies, post relevant news about youth in general and share your comments and ideas. |
