DescriptionI received an e-mail from Drew Pritt this evening informing me that he intends to run against Michael Daugherty for the Little Rock School Board, Zone 2 position. You’ll remember Pritt who announced that he planned to run for Lt. Governor in 2006, but never made it as far as the ballot.

Pritt noted, “I picked up my petition, got the requisite 20 signatures (plus more) of registered voters, and am filing it tomorrow with the Pulaski County Clerks office to run for Little Rock School District, Zone # 2, against Michael Daugherty.”

In his e-mail, Pritt indicated the following reasons for running:

Here’s why I am running. Unfortunately the LRSD has become so hopelessly politicized and racialized where there are two factions. If I win School Zone # 2, each faction will have an equal number of votes (assuming Baker Kurrus is reelected) and that will leave me as the swing vote on the Board which is good.

My goal if elected is to focus on attainable goals/benchmarks for the District & the Students. I believe members of the board need to be more visible in the community – showing up in the schools, at public events, and in collaborative settings. Not only should they share their perspective and help the broader community understand their stake, but as well I believe they should listen and be willing to learn, so we all share in the success of the Little Rock Public Schools. There are wonderful things to celebrate in our schools and the board I believe should work with the parents, the teachers, and even the students to be better ambassadors for our district collectively.
