| Description | Okrug was formed on December 10, 1930 as the Yamal (Nenets) National Okrug and renamed Yamalo-Nenets in 1977. Region is often simply called 'Yamalia'.
The Nenets people (also known as the Samoyed) are a Samoyedic ethnic group dominant in Yamalia and spread throughout northern arctic Russia. |
